Your Sahara trekking adventure begins as the camels are loaded after breakfast and the journey continues deeper into the vast desert. Crossing wind-shaped dunes and wide rocky plains, you walk through remote landscapes and hidden oases that once served as resting places for ancient caravan routes.

Each afternoon, camp is set up in beautiful desert locations together with your guide and camel team. What you need to know (FAQ's)

What equipment do I need for the desert trekking?

For the desert trekking days, you should bring a daypack (approx. 30 L), ankle-high hiking boots with good grip, comfortable shoes or trekking sandals, and practical hiking clothing such as T-shirts and hiking socks.
You will also need warm layers, a waterproof jacket and rain pants, sun protection (hat, sunglasses, sunscreen), a water bottle (min. 1 liter), a headlamp or flashlight, and personal toiletries and medication.

Do I need to bring a sleeping bag?

Yes. For the desert nights you will need a sleeping bag with a comfort rating around 0°C.
If you prefer not to bring your own, a sleeping bag can be rented locally (approx. €60 per week) and will be provided before the desert trek begins.

How is luggage handled during the trek?

During the desert trek, your main luggage is transported by camels.
You will only carry a small daypack with essentials such as water, sun protection, and personal items. We recommend bringing a soft travel bag or duffel bag instead of a suitcase, as it is easier to transport on camels.

Is it possible to ride a camel during the trek?

Yes. Camels are used to transport luggage during the trek.
If you would like to ride a camel instead of walking for certain sections, this can be arranged for approx. €20 per day.

Can I store extra luggage during the desert trek?

Yes. Before the trekking section begins, you may leave part of your luggage safely at the last accommodation before entering the desert. Your belongings will be stored securely and returned to you after the trek.

What are the camping conditions in the desert?

During the desert trek you stay in mobile desert camps in two-person tents (e.g. The North Face Stormbreak tents or similar). The camps are set up each evening by the support team and offer a simple but authentic desert experience under the stars.

How difficult is the desert trekking?

This tour is rated difficulty level 3 (moderate).
The trekking days usually involve walking up to 6 hours per day, mostly across dunes and desert terrain with minimal elevation gain. The tour is suitable for travelers with average fitness and some outdoor experience.

How should I prepare for the trekking?

We recommend preparing with regular walking, hiking, or Nordic walking in hilly terrain about 2 times per week, starting 2–3 months before departure. This will help you comfortably enjoy the trekking days.

Are tips expected in Morocco?

Yes. Tipping is a common way to show appreciation for good service in Morocco.

Typical guideline (per group per week):

  • Cook: approx. 1000 MAD

  • Camel or mule handlers: approx. 500 MAD each

  • Driver: approx. 800 MAD

Small tips for hotel staff are also appreciated.

As we are a local travel agency based in Marrakech, payment is made via international bank transfer to our Moroccan account.

If you prefer alternative payment methods, such as PayPal or a transfer to a German bank account, please contact us directly to discuss the available options.
